My Personal Fairy Tale

It all began in my hometown of Modesto, California. As a teen, I used my father's Super8 camera to create stop-motion animated films. Later, I made live-action films with a couple of friends (guys). We wrote scripts, sewed costumes, created special effects and built camera equipment. In 1989 I worked as an extra in Back to the Future 3 for a month. I wore a 100 year old Victorian dress with corset, bonnet and high laced shoes. It was an incredible educational experience in my young life! I was off to a great start!

I worked my way through Junior College as a roller-skating carhop at the A&W Drive-in (appearing in print & TV advertising for them) and then transferred to film school down in Los Angeles. After graduation, I moved to Burbank and went to work for Walt Disney Imagineering during the week and as a Script Supervisor on low budget films on weekends. I also dabble in background acting from time to time. Script Supervising is an intense job but I enjoy editing and shooting too! So I put down my pencil & stop watch and picked up some new video equipment to start this business. Sadly, event videography is generally viewed as the Clampett cousin of the motion picture industry. Yet, even when Hollywood holds a private party, they know they need a specialist like me, not a DGA member with no wedding experience.

I take the "Truman Show" approach to wedding coverage. That means, I do my best to hide my remote cameras. I don't yet use hidden video such as the "button cam" pictured at right, but I would if someone asked. I strive to get as many angles as possible without interfering with the natural flow of the day. Your enjoyment of the day is just as important as your ability to remember it.

Wedding videography is essential! I have some strong opinions and observations about wedding videography that may interest you. Photographers don't understand videography although they think they do. Here's what they don't know. I've also had the awkward experience of trying to explain to brides why dark weddings look, well, dark on video. So here's why darkness looks dark. I also have some good advice & warnings for those of you who are having an amateur friend film your wedding!

Clean content represents another simple reason I got into the event video business. Hollywood content tends to be laced with images and dialogue that drags me down in spirit. An audience may watch a worthless movie only once but an editor has to watch it for weeks! Working on a movie is far more intensive than simply watching it so I'm pretty choosy. I'm a very traditional gal and sometimes I really think I was born a century too late!
