"Hiring" a Volunteer Videographer can be a Sticky Business
Side-by-Side
Comparison
When
someone volunteers to tape your wedding,
do these things so you'll still be friends later!
1: Have them tape the event using video tapes that you have purchased because without a contract, whoever owns the tapes owns what's on the tapes. If their camera records to memory cards, however, this subtle arm-twist might not work for you unless you want to go buy video cards which aren't cheap.
2: Give him/her a handwritten thank-you card, A $25 coffee house gift card and $50 in a gift experience (such as movie theater tickets or a spa visit). Show them you understand their needs and that their work will mean the world to you and your offspring. Say it with words, say it with coffee (for those late nights at the computer) and say it with relaxation. If you do all this, you will dramatically increase the odds of getting your video before your first child is born.
Editing by a Volunteer?
Shooting the video is far more glamorous than editing it.
Editing takes an enormous amount of time...and there's really no such thing as "spare time."
Here are my prices for editing. Good luck!!
